Our work highlights water as a vital factor in architectural design, influencing leisure, wellness, and flood resilience. In flood-prone areas, we design spaces to store and channel water, minimizing disruption. These spaces serve multiple purposes, such as recreation or energy generation when not flooded. For vulnerable areas, we create new building typologies and mitigation measures, integrating water-sensitive planning to balance functionality, safety, and adaptability in the built environment.

The Baca Process

We are a practice-based research company dedicated to advancing knowledge and driving change in architecture and the built environment, with a particular focus on water-related challenges. We work in collaboration with academics, engineers, and policymakers to achieve these goals. Our efforts span three core areas: enabling, designing, and building flood-resilient homes and communities.

Our concepts are advanced through text, drawings, paintings, models and full-scale prototypes.

Our Featured Projects

Our work is about how water is an important and vital influencing factor, be it friend or foe, influencing architectural design. Our leisure and hospitality projects emphasize personal wellness and water-placemaking. For flood risk sites -space is made to store water, and for water to flow through predetermined parts of settlements without significant disruption to people’s lives.  The space between buildings, which is designed to flood, could provide other functions, such as recreation or energy generation when not flooded; thus, creating multi-functional space and integrated planning. Where housing could not be located within areas of least vulnerability then we developed new building typologies and mitigation measures.
